What Social Contract?
Please....I can't breathe.
I don't even have to source that quote. Even in the middle of the pandemic, everyone knows who said that. Just before he died.
Then came the protests and the looting. How can we blame people who have no power in society for reacting in this way?
Today we prayed that the Holy Spirit will come and renew the face of the Earth. God, how much we need our society to be renewed!
While Philly burned, the Dragon spacecraft successfully launched from Pad 39 (or is it 39A) in Florida. In our weird world I had a better view of the launch than I ever had of any of the Apollo missions or even the later spacecraft.
I found myself weeping at the cognitive dissonance of the most hopeful event on the planet juxtaposed with the horror that we are still savages who kill one another.
Riot, James Baldwin said many years ago, is the voice of the unheard. Sadly, it is also the convenient excuse of the powerful to impose martial law and other oppression.
Let us all call out racism when and where we see it. Let us stand between the marginalized and the militant. Let's learn all we can about one another and love one another dearly. Let's not allow ourselves to be intimidated by the quarantine or the wanna be Nazis or the ambitious who make money when they make us afraid. The Spirit who is holy is coming to renew the face of the Earth. Alleluia!!!
Our social contract is broken. Not our covenant with our Abba. Amen.
Love, Rev. Patti+
