The Spirit Who is Holy
Today I was happy to see our dear Ginger, Pastor of Prince of Peace praying with our wider community. I love it when she sings, throws her entire body into prayer. It makes me smile and remember how much God loves us all. Thanks for being you, Ginger!
I also watched Father James Martin, S.J. do a faith sharing live about the days scriptures from Acts and the Gospel of John. Again, here is someone of whom we can say, Look how he loves. Look how he shares his knowledge and his hope and joy.
There are so many of us out here, to all appearances on our own, and yet we are still sharing, still loving, still being present with one another. I am especially grateful today for the manner in which my family is taking such good care of me. It isn't easy for people who are also constrained by the pandemic to care for and cater to an old lady who sometimes cannot make it to the dinner table. I am so often in such pain but their love and laughter are my best medicine.
I miss my sister Sheila, my Bishop, Cait, and all my CCC friends. I have recently made a new friend who is helping me explore Dame Julian of Norwich, the famous anchoress. She lived through the entire period of the Black Death! Imagine how hard it must have been for her, who probably lost close family, maybe even a child, to such a horror. And yet her God is kind and gentle, and like a sweet mother, always smiling to see us, always happy to comfort us when we fall down. Please pray for my new friend, Father Rod, of the Episcopal Church and Associate of the Order of Julian of Norwich as he helps me study Julian's work.
What is everyone else reading nowadays? I am still plowing through Pema Chodron's Becoming Bhodisattvas, as well as much fiction I find for free on the internet. I am reading Mystic Tea, a novel about an order under investigation by the Vatican. Full of humor and eccentric characters, it also takes seriously the questions of modern women who have issues with patriarchy and a solely male model for the Kingdom of God.
I am rewatching Lost on Imdb, as it is free right now. Slowly, because it seems I fall asleep at the drop of a hat, should someone drop a hat in my bedroom! I love being alive. I love being with my family. I love all of you, whether I know you personally or not. I can only love all of you because God first came to dwell within me. Thanks God!
More tomorrow, perhaps. Do let me know if you have questions or things you would like me to write about. I do love writing. I am so grateful to feel well enough to sit up and do some writing. Amen and amen. May God encircle and inhabit you today and all days. Love, Rev. Patti
